Sherman Theatre’s free music event, the Foyer Sessions, returns next week with two talented electronic Welsh artists, Y Pencadlys and H O R S E S.
Performing in the Sherman Theatre foyer, audiences can come in for a pint, enjoy a bit of grub from Foxy’s Kitchen and enjoy listening to free live music from some of the fresh faced talent emerging from Wales.
Y Pencadlys (The Headquarter) is the artistic output of W H Hughes, the latest in a long line of great Welsh anti-pop heroes. Formerly a member of electronic mavericks Land of Bingo and Seindorff, Hughes is currently gaining cult-like status due to his memorably intense gigs, creating music full of electronic pulses, femme fatale melodies, operatic menace and eastern bloc non-conformity.
Peski released Merched Mewn Ecstasi: Detholiad Y Pencadlys 06-09 at the end of last year which was an EP of tracks recorded by Y Pencadlys between 2006 and 2009. W H is currently finalising his debut album which will be released at the end of the year.
Following Y Pencadlys, will be Peski label mates, H O R S E S who employ a dark hearted electronic take on the Gloom Wave genre.
The H O R S E S duo incorporate mournful vocals escorted gently by cold beats and balmy synths to evoke a brutalist image of Berlin.
Both H O R S E S and Y Pencadlys make use of highly stylized visuals for their sets providing a memorable audio-visual experiences for the audience.
Now in its third year, the Sherman Theatre continues to curate free Foyer Sessions where gig goers can listen to the most interesting local music in a comfortable, contemporary space with a well-stocked bar and good food.
Following on the success of last year’s music festival, OCTA will be returning on Saturday 4 April with more bands performing on the stage at the Sherman. Artists announced so far for OCTA include Cotton Wolf, Gwenno, Rhodri Brooks & Eugene Capper, Totem Terrors, Albatross Archive, Jon Ruddick (and his magnificent camera tracking Ping Pong table!), Casey Raymond and Nic Finch (offering a visual feast) and Peski DJs, and Gareth Potter.
