Wales Blog Awards Winner 2014

Three is a magic number

It’s our birthday – we’re three today! We’d like to thank everyone who reads our posts, contributes posts, and follows us on Twitter and Facebook – we couldn’t and wouldn’t do this without you!

We’ve had a great year – winning the Digital Heroes Award for Wales in October 2013, winning Best Community Blog at the Wales Blog Awards in May this year, and been awarded funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund for our First World War project Roath Remembers, just in time for the centenary commemorations in August.

As usual, we’ve found from searches and post views that you’re interested most in food, restaurants and pubs! But you’re also interested in keeping Roath shipshape and tidy, and battling with the rubbish and waste issues on our streets.

There have been some fantastic community events and projects over the last year that we’ve been delighted to help publicise: the ever popular Great Roath Bake Off, the inaugural Shelley Gardens Food Festival, the art extravaganza that is the Made in Roath Festival, and of course the first Wellfield Winter Festival, which was a great success. We’ve been glad to publicise and follow the progress of Cynefin Cardiff and Plasnewydd Community Garden in their environmental and community work, and to see local people getting involved.

We’ve also helped celebrate the 120th birthday of Roath Park in July – and we got #RoathPark120 trending (in Cardiff at least!) on the day. Thanks to Anne Bell particularly for her guest post on the Opening of Roath Park, which is one of our most read this year – take a look if you haven’t seen it.

We continue to support and champion local independent businesses, taking part in Small Business Saturday and High Street Week; as well as our local Roath Farmers’ Market and Roath Craft Market – every Saturday 9.30am-1pm.

The many many artistic and musical endeavours in the area are hard to keep up with, but we do our best to get the news of exhibitions, gigs and theatre productions to you, at least via Twitter.

Thanks again to everyone for supporting us, and keep on keeping us busy!
