Shelley Gardens Food Festival

Roath Residents Action Group and Green City Events are holding a community shaped and community led Food Festival on the 1st June 2014. The festival will take place in Shelley Gardens (off City Road – behind the Poets Corner Pub).

The main aim of the festival is to bring residents together to celebrate our diverse neighbourhood through the selling, eating and cooking of food from cultures represented in the local area.

The festival will be split into 4 parts:

Shelley Gardens collage

1) Local food stalls, representing the different cultures of the neighbourhood. These ‘pop up’ stalls will sell a variety of interesting and tasty food at affordable prices.

2) A big picnic area, with a bandstand and entertainment in the park.

3) Cooking and budgeting workshops to take place in an education marquee.

4) Gardening activities in the Plasnewydd Community Garden area.

So far we have had interest from food sellers representing: Africa, Italy, Portugal, Lebanon, India, Wales and Malaysia. In addition, we are hoping that there will be a variety of music, circus acts, face painting and cookery workshops. Lastly, there will be a number of information stalls including: Love Food Hate Waste, Cardiff Council food recycling/composting, the Federation of City Farms & Community Gardens, Cardiff Food Co-Op and more.

Come down between 12 – 4pm and try some tasty food!

The event is supported by Cynefin Cardiff, Communities 1st, the Big Lunch, the Big Lottery and local residents/businesses.
