From 9am yesterday morning they came to Roath bearing cake – more than 100 of Cardiff’s keenest amateur, professional and junior bakers brought their entries to St Andrew’s Church to face a panel of celebrity and veteran Roath Bake Off judges.
By midday there was standing room only as the judges – Owain Wyn Evans, Nathan Wyburn, Lauren Harries, Beca Lyne-Perkis, Chris Needs, Christian Amodeo, Matt Appleby, Sarah Williams, Nikki Vivian and Mariclare Carey-Jones – started to make their way through plate after plate of cakes and savoury bakes.
Entertainment was provided by artist Nathan Wyburn, former The Voice star Ragsy and Roath favourite Callum Ross. An estimated £2,000 was raised by the event which has brought the whole Roath community together and was generously supported by local businesses in recent weeks.
And the winners were…
Bake Off: Nell Pugh for her chocolate peanut butter cake
Junior Bake Off: Eleri Ford
Professional: Gareth Owen Davies
Savoury: Dave of Halcyon Daze
