The most anticipated local competition of the year, The Great Roath Bake Off, is back!
Organiser Wayne Courtney has pulled out all the stops for this year’s event, with more categories (see below), more music, and more celebrity judges!
Here’s all the details you’ll need from Wayne. Get baking, Roath!
The Great Roath Bake Off will take place on Saturday 12th April at St Andrew’s Church Hall, with doors opening at 11am. As well as the main Bake Off, where there will be three categories: Best Cake, Best Bake (bread/pies) and Best Professional Cake, we are running a Junior Bake Off for under 16s (any type of bake). Entry to each category is £3, with all proceeds going to charity.
This year we’ve got a great line up of judges: Nikki Vivian, Sarah Williams, Matt Appleby, Sharron Mills, Mariclare Carey-Jones, and special guest judges Chris Needs MBE, Lauren Harries (Celebrity Big Brother), Owain Wyn Evans (BBC weather presenter), Nathan Wyburn (Britain’s Got Talent), Dave Brookes (Real Radio), and extra special guest and judge is Beca Lyne-Pirkis from The Great British Bake Off.
Musical entertainment will be provided by Calum Ross, Tori Lang, and Ellie Makes Music, plus others still to be confirmed.
Our special guest performer is Ragsy who was a finalist on BBC1’s The Voice.
Britain’s Got Talent finalist Nathan Wyburn will create a special Bake Off inspired piece of art on the day. Nathan has created unique portraits of many celebrities including Simon Cowell, Alan Carr and Miley Cyrus.
We are incredibly honoured to have Beca Lyne-Pirkis attending the Bake Off. Beca came third in last year’s Great British Bake Off.
There will be stalls, raffles and refreshments, and all the money raised will be going to the A6 Acute Stroke Ward at UHW, A6 Trauma Ward at UHW and St Andrew’s Church Funds.
The Great Roath Bake Off will be hosted by me, Wayne Courtney. The Bake Off has grown and grown each year and the success of last year’s was phenomenal. We are hoping to build on that success, and have high hopes for a great turn out this year. The Bake Off is a great community event and attracts people from as far as Bristol and Swansea.
