Exhibition: Flora & Fauna at The Gate Arts Centre

For our second exhibition of the year The Gate Gallery is welcoming two graduates from UWIC Howard Gardens, Kathryn David and Lindsey Porritt, and their exhibition ‘Flora & Fauna’ to our venue. The artwork in this exhibition ‘is a mixture of copper and steel etching, collagraphs, photographs and paintings.’

Kathryn’s traditional approach is complemented by a modern style. She takes a familiar organic item or landscape and tranforms it into a tonal abstract image. Her aim is to make a once familiar scene into an intriguing, enigmatic image. She hopes to evoke an emotive response to her subject matter. The palette she has chosen is complimentary and understated. Kathryn’s interest in her subject matter derives from her affiliation with nature.

Lindsey’s artwork is a visual representation of her fascination with fish. The free flowing lines and harmonious compositions reflect the grace and elegance of fish in their natural environment. Her works are vibrant and textured and often hand finished by the addition of handmade papers and inks. A traditional yet experimental approach compliments a diverse and ancient species.
