Wellfield Winter Festival

We’re so looking forward to this! Here’s a guest post from Dave at Halcyon Daze to explain a bit more about the festival – thanks Dave!

Wellfield Winter Festival poster‘Basically the Wellfield Traders Association decided to do a bit more this year to create a Christmas buzz!! We are closing the street between 4pm and 6pm on Saturday 16th November and have encouraged the traders to ‘do something’!!

Many have risen to the challenge and we are having:

An animal petting area!

A Santa’s Grotto with pressies for the kids!

Two choirs

A live band (The Brwmys)

A real fire engine and firemen!

Snow machines

Stilt walkers

Art display for the local schools in an empty shop (53 Wellfield Road)

Light switching on count down (to be turned on by three children from the local schools, the winners of the art competition)

There are also offers and promotions at many of the shops and businesses.

The timetable of the choirs and band is below. The grotto and other attractions will be open from about 3pm but all times are flexible, as logistics on the day may slightly change things.

4.00pm to 4.30pm – Roath Park Choir outside Quality Carpets.

4.30pm to 4.55pm – Baptist Church Choir outside Halcyon Daze.

4.55pm – 5.00pm –  countdown to switching on of the Christmas lights.

Christmas Lights will be turned on in three stages by art competition winners from local schools:-

5.05pm to 5.30pm – The Brwmys play outside Halcyon Daze.

5.05pm to 5.30pm – Baptist Church Choir outside the Christmas Grotto in Wellfield Place.

5.30pm to 6.00 pm – Marlborough Community Choir outside Quality Carpets.

RoathCardiff received this lovely message for the Wellfield Road traders following the Festival:

I would just like to thank Wellfield Road traders for a nice time at the lights ‘switch on’ last Saturday 16th December 2013. Some neighbours of mine and me got the bus and had a lovely time. The children loved the snow machines and the stilt walkers etc. We didn’t manage to get a glimpse of santa and his reindeer as it was really busy.

Would you thank those involved. Also, I was wondering if you could give me some contact names of those entertainers and reindeer farms that attended your event as I would like to maybe invite them to future events in my local community in the future.
    Thank you. Wendy Loveridge-Rees
