New Cardiff Country Fair looking for bakers

We know Roath is full of baking talent and there’s a chance to take on the rest of Cardiff this autumn with the launch of new competitions at the Cardiff Country Fair.

Taking place on 28-29 September at Cardiff Castle the event will showcase the essence of rural Wales, celebrating the best of farming, food and the countryside.

The fair is looking for entries for the Produce and Handicraft section which will judge produce such as the best Welsh cakes, Victoria sponges, cupcakes and plaited loaves along with a whole host of other competitions. These events will be overseen by Royal Welsh Show expert Margaret Spencer who is Head of the Produce and Handicraft section at the Royal Welsh Show.

Cabinet Member for Sport, Culture and Leisure, Cllr Ramesh Patel, said: “The Cardiff Country Fair will bring the best of the country to the heart of the city. I would urge residents of Cardiff to get out their cake tins, sewing kits or jam jars and take up the challenge.”

Margaret Spencer added: “The Produce and Handicraft section at the Royal Welsh attracts over 300 entries across all sections. I can’t wait to see what the people of Cardiff can do. You don’t have to be a professional baker, most of the award winning entries come from people who just love cooking.”
