The Roath Local History Society is now online

We know how much you like local history by the numbers of you who read our guest posts on the subject, and how often our twitter followers re-tweet photographs of Roath in the past.

So you’ll be delighted to know that Roath Social Media Surgery (run by members of RoathCardiff) has been working with the Roath Local History Society to get them online.

The old Roath Court Roath Local History Society has been running since 1978, and has a long and valuable track record of researching, cataloguing and writing about the local area.

Key member Jeff Childs (in association with the Society) has written two books: the latest, Roath, Splott and Adamsdown: A Thousand Years of History, was published in September 2012, and an earlier book of images, Roath, Splott and Adamsdown has been available since 2004.

Malcolm Ranson (Chairman), Jeff Childs (Vice-Chairman), and Peter Gillard (Secretary) have worked with the Roath Social Media Surgery team over a number of meetings to construct the site, adding information and images, and working towards an active online presence that will make the Society more accessible.

The Society is currently developing the website, but on it you can already find details of their programme and officers, and links to other local societies and organisations.  You can get in touch with them using their contact form.
