Despite growing up in Pontypool – hardly a million miles away – I didn’t know Cardiff well until I started to work here in 1996. I lived for five years in a flat above St Mary Street which was ‘lively’ before a brief stint in Pontcanna before finally landing here in 2007. I fell in love with the Victorian terraces, the Park (which I’d never been to!) and the fantastic places to eat & drink. Pontcanna may be lovely/leafy but Roath just has more life about it. I’m constantly making new discoveries here – current favourites include the Albany (HQ), Troy, Empire and Ichiban. The weekly farmers’ market was a big inspiration for me to start blogging recipes (www.easyteas.co.uk) which in turn has sparked my involvement in Cardiff Blogs, the 4am Project, Social Media Surgeries and of course roathcardiff.net.
